Oily skin is a common skin problem for both men and women. It mainly affects teenagers, but oily skin can occur at any stage of a person's life. This condition usually affects the face, hands, arms, and legs, and its symptoms may include:

In this type of skin, a person's oil-producing sebaceous glands are overactive and produce more oil than is actually required. This oil exudes, gives the skin a particularly greasy shine, and attracts dirt and dust from the environment. This, in turn, makes the patient more susceptible to blackheads, pimples, impurities, rough pores and spots, and there are many factors that can cause oily skin, namely:


Genetic causes. Oily skin condition can be passed on through your genes, so if your parents or any of your immediate family members suffer from the condition, there is a high chance of it.

Poor eating habits. Here a poor or poor diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies of vitamins B2 and B5 which can contribute significantly to oily skin.

Use of birth control pills. Contraceptive pill use partially changes the way a woman's hormones work, so one of the symptoms of this imbalance is oily skin.

This is especially common between the summer and spring periods.

Cosmetics that are used. Some cosmetics can clog your pores and force the sebaceous glands to release more oil on the skin. Other beauty products can also worsen your pre-existing mild oily skin condition and make it much worse.


The most important tips on how to prevent and care for oily skin


There are several ways to prevent and treat oily skin, the most important of which are:


1) Be careful not to stimulate your skin with harsh products or those that will dry out the skin. Avoid soap as it irritates the skin's natural protective layer and will worsen your pre-existing condition. Instead of soap, use specific face cleansers specially formulated for sensitive skin.


2) Eat properly. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Eat a diet rich in protein but restricted in sugar, fluids, and salt. Try to eat lots of leafy greens and fresh fruits. Finally, nutritional yeast, wheat germ and organic meats provide good sources of Vitamins B2 and B5, which are essential to prevent oily skin.


3) Keep your skin as clean as possible by using a good quality face wash twice a day as this will often help open the pores and reduce the amount of dirt on the face. Pair this with a facial scrub three times a week and an oil-free and wax-free moisturizer that will leave skin matte once a day and your oily skin problem will reduce itself drastically.


4) Herbs and herbal remedies can also help prevent and treat oily skin. Aloe vera is known for its excellent healing properties and should be used in gel form when needed. Burdock root, horsetail, oat straw, and thyme are also great for nourishing the skin.


5) The clay mask can be worn and used on a weekly basis and it will make a big difference for you. When the clay dries, it absorbs excess oil from the skin's pores, along with the accumulated dirt and dead skin cells.


6) Avoid skin care products that leave your skin feeling tight and dry because they cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink. This shrinkage limits the flow of oil through the pores of the skin, which in turn leads to clogging and breakage.


7) Remember to take any make-up you used to finish at night. Many women and men simply forget and go to bed without taking off their makeup, while this may seem harmless enough, this clogs the skin pores and sebaceous glands from which the skin produces a lot of sebum. Also, after removing make-up, consider using a quality night cream that will help rejuvenate skin while you sleep. Most night creams contain wheat germ that is rich in vitamins B2 and B5 that can help oily skin.


8) Keep your skin hydrated by drinking at least 8 cups of water daily because this will prevent the skin from drying out a lot, which stimulates the skin to produce more sebum.


9) Try as much as possible to use cleansing products that contain high amounts of alpha hydroxyl acids which remove dead cells and give the skin a smoother appearance.
